Learning objectives
The course aims at teaching the basic concepts on sustainable management of the physic environment, to deal with the problems of the environmental geology in particular related to the exploitation and use of the georesources. Besides, the analysis of the geosites as elements of the territorial development within the planning is dealt with.
Prerequisites

Course unit content
The course contents treat: of the development of the relationship between human activity and applied geological principles concerning the environment use and exploitation. Environmental Geology is a basic discipline for the knowledge and control of the territory for its socio-economics planning and best management purposes. The principal issues concern the geo-resourses, geosites individuation, selection and improvement, hydrogeologic hazard and human urbanization, the analysis of the physic environment and its planning.
Full programme
Introduction: concepts of sustainability applied to problems of the environmental geology.
The geo-resources: general concepts, types of geo-resources (non-renewable/renewable), their availability and future view are treated. Examples of environmental impact, due to geo-resources exploitation, are explained.
Geologic landscape: general concepts and methods for geosites selection aiming the promotion of the geo-tourism and cultural heritage are illustrated.
Consequences of the quarry activity: inherent legislation, local impact assessment and relationship with the water table are explained. Besides, methods for the restoration and reuse of disused quarries are dealt with.
