Course unit content

In the dissertation workshop, the integrated experience of composition and design is characterized by an experimental and research process, which involves the experiences previously carried out concerning aspects of typology, figuration and the urban role of architecture. Added to these are determinations of technical feasibility that affect the functionality and its players as well as the technological, plant, and construction components of a work. The procedure to approach the project and the search for original contributions include a comprehensive development of the project on multiple scales, with definition of executive details of some of its parts.

Bibliography

Those indicated at the workshop. Further targeted bibliographical information is given with respect to specific issues addressed.

Teaching methods

The workshop is intended as a place for single or collective operators in which designs are made, according to a methodology of discussion between teacher and student, individually or in small groups. Activities supported, moreover, by a coordinated series of theory lessons.

Assessment methods and criteria

Exhibition of the work done and its path. Student assessment is made by taking into account both the final result and his/her application in the various phases of the project. The evaluation is sufficient if the project demonstrates a capacity acquired to address the issue, in terms of approach but also in terms of graphic representation and verbal presentation. In addition to the final check there are some moments of intermediate verification of learning, conducted at seminar groups within the confines of the single workshop.
