Course presentation - video

Why in Parma?

The exam tests for many courses include practical activities based on the analysis of real data that train the student in the use of software, in writing reports and the corresponding story telling, typical tasks of data analysts and data scientists.

The course is taught entirely in English and promotes study experiences abroad. In terms of entry into the world of work, the Course will include internship activities, especially in companies and businesses operating in the data science sector.

CdLM aims to train specialists capable of using mathematical-statistical-IT techniques within public and private companies and administrations, including scientific and technological research bodies or institutes, for the management, processing, analysis and use of data.

Master’s graduates in the courses of the class will be able to work in roles of high responsibility in one or more of the following areas:

  • in the tertiary sector and public administrations, for example for the development and management of innovative data-based services, such as those usable online, in mobile mode or linked to social networks;
  • in the corporate sector, for example to manage projects and propose innovative solutions in the field of information and IT systems and in the context of decision-making processes at operational, tactical/managerial and strategic/directional levels, processes often based on information obtained from large amounts of data;
  • in the scientific and technological sectors as support figures to specialists in the field for activities relating to data management, processing and analysis and for modelling.

After graduation

Obtaining a degree in DATA SCIENCE will allow you to occupy the following positions of responsibility in the world of work:

  • the “Data analyst” who holds roles of responsibility in the analysis of large amounts of data within a company or organization, with the aim of extracting and inferring new knowledge useful for understanding reality and instrumental to strategic-decision-making processes. Typically this role requires combining and exploring multiple data sources, often large (big data management) and unstructured;
  • the “Data Scientist” who, compared to the data analyst, is a more technical figure and requires the use of advanced mathematical, statistical and IT tools. The data scientist therefore carries out functions related to the application and development of probabilistic/analytical models to extract data properties and carry out the related study and design in the predictive field, as well as tasks related to the development of new statistical/probabilistic algorithms to optimize business processes.
