Why in Parma?
The Mechanical Engineering degree course has always guaranteed excellent employment opportunities thanks to its strong links with the numerous mechanical industries in the area, which require workorce in various sectors such as food, pharmaceuticals, logistics, plant engineering, and energy.
To nurture students' vocations and respond to the specific demands of the industrial world, the course includes a part common to all and a choice between three curricula:
- Energy;
- Mechatronics;
- Industrial Design.
Regardless of the chosen curriculum, due to the wide-ranging and transverse basic preparation of the common part of the course, engineers fit into many industrial sectors, benefiting from a global context where the demand for mechanical engineers is very high and far exceeds the supply.
The employment rate in the mechanical engineering field is remarkable: one year after graduation the employment percentage exceeds 90% for three-year graduatess, and is close to 100% for master's degree holders.
A unique aspect of the course is the opportunity to apply the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired through the design and construction of a recently developed single-seater, electrically-driven racing vehicle competing in the Formula SAE championship. This prestigious competition is open to engineering students from all over the world and awards the best projects.
The teaching staff is stable, approachable and well-connected to the national and international research network. The teaching facilities are tailored to the needs of the students, with many classrooms and laboratories for teaching and research, as well as libraries and study areas. The course also provides study periods abroad and gives the opportunity to touch base with the working world before graduating, thanks to the compulsory internship at either the university or a company.

At the end of the three-year course the student acquires critical and problem-solving skills, up-to-date, highly versitile operational competences and is able to respond effectively to the technical challenges coming from the industry and service sectors.
The three-year engineer possesses the skills to understand and apply advanced design techniques for machines and plants, with advanced tools and innovative materials; the activities they will perform concern the implementation and management of manufacturing and production processes, energy production and conversion, safety and quality certification.
The manufacturing industry, producing machines, components, systems and plants, is the industry that employs three-year mechanical engineers the most; the reference sectors are mechanical, electromechanical, chemical, agrifood, pharmaceutical, automation and robotics. Other employment opportunities include freelance design and consultancy activities as well as employment in the public administration.
