Course-specific learning objectives

The course is aimed at graduates already in possession of an adequate physical-mathematical background and a solid basic knowledge in the field of civil engineering; it aims to train specialised professionals in the field of design, construction, maintenance and management of civil structures and infrastructures serving the city and the territory. Employment opportunities are as self-employed professionals, in public administrations, engineering companies and production or service companies.
During the two-year course, two distinct and complementary learning objectives are pursued in addition to those intrinsic to the class: to consolidate in the student a sufficiently articulate and in-depth knowledge and vision of the fields characterising civil engineering thanks to a solid generalist education; to focus specialisation in a (narrower) specific field of the student's choice. Alongside the formation of a technical-scientific background, the course aims to stimulate in students an engineering-based approach to problem solving, the ability to make choices independently but also to relate and collaborate within a working group.
The curriculum is divided into three learning areas:
1. Advanced Knowledge Area for Civil Engineering 2. Specialised learning areas 3. Area of autonomy and responsibility.
The course units taught in the first area broaden the student's preparation across the whole spectrum of the main disciplines of civil engineering.
The course units in the second area of learning, articulated along alternative curricula, provide specialised knowledge and skills in the fields of construction, structural, hydraulics and infrastructure.
In the third learning area, emphasis is placed on autonomous doing and the ability to make decisions and take on responsibility.
