Learning objectives

<br />To provide a deep knowledge of the fundamental principles of drug formulation, with particular attention to the methods of preparation, administration routes and drug absorption.  

Prerequisites

It is preferable to have already passed the exams of “general chemistry” and “organic chemistry”.

Course unit content

<br />- Type of dosage forms: oral, topic, transdermal, ophthalmic, parenteral, nasal, pulmonary, vaginal and rectal.<br />- Italian and European Pharmacopoeia.<br />- Methods of grinding, mixing, granulation, compression, drying, filtration, sterilisation, dissolution and distillation.<br />- Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics.<br />- Administration routes and drug absorption.<br />- Stability and storage of the dosage forms.<br />- Modified release of the drugs.<br />- Herbal products.<br />- Homeophatic formulations.<br />- Serums and vaccines.<br />- Radiodrugs.<br />- Veterinary medicines.
