Learning objectives

<p>To provide the student wuth the basic knowledge about the degradation, consolidation and conservation of stone.</p>
<p>Illustrate the properties of the materials used in the field on conservation of stone.</p>
<p>in the laboratory, the student will approach the chemistry of alkoxysilanes and hybrid materials. </p>

Prerequisites

Knowledge acquired in the courses of General and Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry

Course unit content

<p> Degradation of stone </p>
<p>Materials for the conservation and protection of stone:</p>
<p>organic resins, hydroxides, alkoxysilanes, hybrid organic-inorganic materials; </p>
<p>Laboratory:</p>
<p>Preparation of silica xerogels in different conditions. Correlation between properties and prepartive method.</p>
<p>Treatment of stone with commercial alkoxysilane productc</p>
<p>Preparation of hybrid materials</p>
<p>Practical training of FTIR spectrophotometry</p>
