Learning objectives

To provide students with a substantive knowledge of the actions and uses of the most important drugs and furnish an understanding of their therapeutic outcomes.

Prerequisites

To take the examinations of FISIOLOGIA GENERALE and BIOCHIMICA

Course unit content

General pharmacology
– Drug targets, mechanisms of drug action and basic pharmacokinetics
– Drug-drug interactions, food-drug interactions and drug safety
– Drug development and basic clinical testing

Systematicl pharmacology
– Drugs affecting the autonomic nervous systems and neuromuscular junction
– Drugs affecting central nervous system
– Drugs affecting gastrointestinal function
– Drugs affecting renal and cardiovascular function
– Pharmacotherapy of asthma
– Pharmacological control of haemostasis
– Drug therapy of inflammation and immunomodulators
– Agents affecting hormonal homeostasis
– Chemotherapy of microbial and neoplastic diseases
