Learning objectives
The course means to offer an introduction of one the central themes of German literature of the 19th century. The students are asked to identify the general problems of literary realism by studying the individual works, verifying the specifity of the phenomenon according to the literary context. The students participate actively in this learning process by preparing brief reports on given arguments to be presented during the course.

Course unit content
The course adresses the most caracteristic phenomenon of German literature in the 19th century, realism. By studying some of the main literary works, the origins and the evolution of the phenomenon will be explored in depth.
