Learning objectives
The course aims to bring students to a deepening and consolidation of the morpho-syntactic and lexical knowledge of contemporary German with particular attention to literary texts and essays, to the development of hermeneutical skills, as well as relevant translation techniques at an advanced level. Through theoretical reflection on the German language in a German-Italian contrastive perspective, students will refine their reading skills and comprehension of literary texts and essays (also complex ones), which they will analyze in morpho-syntactic and lexical perspectives, before passing to the stage of translation.

Course unit content
The course will focus primarily on the structures that present the most conspicuous differences in the two languages and therefore offer the greatest difficulties for Italian speakers, especially taking into consideration the pragmatic aspects related to these structures: brackets verbal and nominal compositions, use of tenses in the past and modal particles are among the most significant issues that will be dealt with. We will treat central themes and related examples through ad hoc exercises, as well as through translations from German to Italian by way of an in-depth conceptual and applicative approach compared to what students already know from previous years.

Teaching methods
The course is conducted through lectures, in which the topics will be addressed according to a contrastive approach in an interlinguistic perspective. The course is combined with the practical language classes taught by the Foreign Language Lectors.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment will be by oral and written exam, the latter in the form of a short translation. In the oral exam, in particular, students will be required to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of terminology in both languages, German and Italian, in the discussion of grammatical phenomena.
