Course unit content
Beginning with an analysis of the differences between spoken and written language, the course will introduce various theoretical approaches to the study of English, introducing students to disciplines such as Conversational Analysis, Pragmatics and Critical Discourse Analysis. In order to see how these theoretical notions can be applied to the study of the language used by English speakers, during the course we will analyse different kinds of written and spoken texts. Following this, we shall discuss translation issues in terms of both interlinguistic and intersemiotic translation.
