Learning objectives

The main objective of the internship in the second year of the Master’s Degree Course is to provide a broad panorama of the numerous differentiated aspects of the professional activity, with certain specific elements that delve into some professional themes, differentiated according to the particular Host, but without ever losing sight of the overall vision of the profession.

Course unit content

The second-year Internship of the Master’s Degree Course in Architecture is conceived as a closing moment and an occasion to get to know the professional world The formula offered by the Degree Course, which carries on that of the third year of the three-year course in Sciences of Architecture is split into 120 hours to be worked at an external Host (public or private, in most cases a freelance Architect or Engineer) under the supervision of a Tutor, who will have a certain guaranteed amount of professional experience, able to recapitulate through direct experience the main aspects and professional skills of the figure of the architect, according to a wide-ranging overall preliminary picture of all the elements that characterize the profession, but also some specific experiences which are investigated more thoroughly.

Bibliography

In addition to the classic reference texts (the Architect’s Manual and similar), the student acquires his or her first knowledge of the reference norms for the various aspects of the profession (national and regional laws, municipal regulations and documents, reference regulations for the profession, etc.).

Teaching methods

The Internship takes place at the Host’s in a professional situation. As a result, the student effects his or her hours in an actual working context, entering into direct contact with all the various events, situations and problems that characterize the profession, also by following set working hours.

Assessment methods and criteria

As well as a final declaration from the Host’s Tutor that guarantees the total hours requested, the student is expected to compile a final report on the experience gained, dealing with and documenting all the points demanded by the Internship, as well as the particular themes dealt with in more depth.
