Learning objectives

The purpose is to have a complete information about different procedures  used in diagnostic microbiology: direct diagnosis, isolation and characterization, serological diagnosis, several possibilities of molecular diagnosis using  different probe assaies, PCR and actual modifications.

<br />Systematic taxonomy of microrganisms causing infecion in human host.<br />Different tropism of pathogens related to infection in humans.<br />Microbiological diagnosis.<br />Procedures for a correct microbial diagnosis.<br />Growth and isolation of pathogens: its characterisation.<br />Determination of specific antibodies production,seroconversion, and description of different related methodologies.<br />Procedures using specific molecular probes.<br />Polymerase chain reaction and its actual modification to gain better results. <br />Quantitative PCR.<br />Antimicrobial compounds and its “in vivo” determination in body fluids.<br />Determination of “in vitro” sensitivity and resistance to antimicrobials.<br />Vaccinetherapy and Serotherapy.<br />Antiviral compounds.
