Learning objectives

 The course aims to give the student the basic concepts regarding the application of measures of prevention and control of infectious diseases, with particular reference to bird and rabbit breeding. During the course, to the student will be given the basic elements relating to the main bacterial and viral diseases concerning bird and rabbit breeding. At the end of the course the student should have acquired the ability to analyse the etiological, epidemiological, pathogenetic, diagnostic and disease prevention aspects of the diseases dealt with.

<br /> Environment, hygiene and direct disease prevention measures in the intensive breeding of fowl and in incubators. The use of antibacterial, antimycotic and antiparasitic drugs in fowl. <br />Diagnostic methodology:<br />The mass and individual semiological model for diagnosing diseases in fowl. Necroscopic technique applied to diagnosis of avian diseases; main laboratory tests in diagnosing diseases in fowl.<br />Etiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical and anatomical-pathological pictures, diagnosis, disease prevention measures, therapy and legislative aspects of the main diseases – both bacterial (Colibacillosis, salmonellosis, mycoplasmosis, pasteurellosis, tuberculosis, staphylococcosis, contagious coryza, and chlamydiosis) and viral (bird flu, Newcastle disease, infectious laryngotracheitis, infectious bronchitis, Gumboro disease, Marek disease, avian leucosis-sarcoma complex, myxomatosis, viral haemorrhagic disease) in birds and rabbits.
