The student will have to know the main features of the Italian fauna and the main methods and instruments for its conservation

Course unit content

In general, the course will deal with the main issues of wildlife conservation management and biodiversity, which will be treated at organism, population and ecosystem level. The main methods for monitoring and counting will be described, together with the most important techniques used to study wildlife populations, based on eco-morphological and molecular analysis. During the course, specific examples of conservation and management of vulnerable Italians vertebrates will be addressed and discussed focusing on birds, fresh water fishes and mammals. The student will be updated about the sets of rules, provisions, national and international conventions that are acting on the conservation of biodiversity
