Learning objectives

To provide the instruments for the understanding of the new approach for the analysis of genomes and their function. Recent literature will be used for an in-depth study of specific subject.

Course unit content

<p>Structural characteristics of eukariotic genomes. The genome and its function. Whole genome sequencing projects (Homo sapiens, Arabidopsis, E. coli). Bioinformatic resources for data mining. Transcriptional profile analysis: array based methods, sequencing based methods, differential display based methods. Viral genomics: structural and genetics characteristics. Replication of retrovirus. Molecular approaches for studying the interference between retroviral and cellular genes. Gene therapy and application of retroviral vectors. Introduction to immunopathogenesis of AIDS. Practical use of bioinfomatics resources and introduction to the main databases available for genomic analysis. </p>
