Learning objectives

<br />Teach about historical-naturalistic emergencies and evolution of the Garden in history.<br />Provide the ability to recognise the various types of historic garden for the purpose of conservation of culture-linked landscapes

<br />Plant heritage as cultural heritage<br />Botany as Naturalis Historia <br />Historical-naturalistic emergencies:<br />Monumental trees. Botanical gardens. Historic herbariums.  <br />Botany in architecture and in the conservation of Gardens<br />Evolution of the garden in history:<br />Oriental gardens (Egyptian, Mesopotamic, Persian). Hellenistic and Roman gardens. Medieval and Arabian-Islamic gardens. The Renaissance garden. The garden between mannerism and Baroque. The garden in the eighteenth century. The garden in the nineteenth century. The garden in the twentieth century. <br />      Historic gardens:<br />      The concept of historic park and garden and protection guidelines. Contributions of botanical research: aspects of method. Cataloguing of historic parkland. Restoration of historic parkland. <br />Botany for conservation of environments and landscapes linked to the culture           <br />      of humanity<br />     Landscape conservation. <br />      Landscapes in the pictorial image.<br />     Landscapes in literature: Literary parks. <br />
