Learning objectives

The goal of the course is, first and foremost, to provide fundamental knowledge regarding medieval history, freeing the field of numerous preconceptions about this historical period. It will also be aimed at providing students with the critical skills to interpret an histographical topic.

Prerequisites

<p>There are no set course requirements for this course. However, knowledge of Latin is recommended.</p>

Course unit content

<p> The course is divided in two modules, each representing a unit worth 5 university educational credits. Module A will provide the students with the necessary skills to understand the underlying themes of the Middle Ages. Module B will address some specific political, religious, social, economic and cultural issues, bringing the students in contact with the sources and the problems of the historiographic method.</p>

Bibliography

<p>The students will supplement their study of medieval history manual (advised is M. Montanari, Storia medievale, Rome-Bari, Laterza, 2002) with other texts of the method and historiography indicated in the lessons.</p>
