Course unit content

The first unit is an introductory course covering performance models throughout the history of the theatre, with analysis of written examples, scenography and theatrical concepts. The second unit is a specialised course which analyses two key texts from ninrteenth- and twentieth-century European drama: Büchner’s Woyzeck and Wedekind’s Lulu diptych (Der Erdgeist/The Earth Spirit and Die Büchse Der Pandora/Pandora’s Box). The two texts will then be related to the works that derived from them through other languages, the music of Alban Berg for Woyzeck and cinema for Pabst’s film, Lulu or Pandora's Box.
