Course unit structured in the following modules:

Learning objectives

Provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to assist patients affected with psychiatric diseases, with particular emphasis on confusional states, schizophrenia, delirious psychoses and mood disorders. Additionally, students will be expected to acquire the capacity (through simulations in class) to identify and justify the nursing care, with particular emphasis on the nursing process. Additionally, students will be expected to acquire knowledge of the main guidelines for treating such disorders, with special reference to efficacy and to the undesired effects of the same.

Course unit content

<br />The course will provide students with up-to-date knowledge of psychopathology, clinics, treatment and prognosis of the main psychiatric disorders, with particular emphasis on confusional states, schizophrenic and delirious psychoses, mood disorders and anxiety. Moreover, students will be provided with the necessary information behind the nursing care, with particular emphasis on the phases of the nursing process.

Teaching methods

The course will consist of theoretical lessons and of a period of time, together with the tutor, at the in-patient departments of the Psychiatric Clinic and other psychiatric hospital and territorial healthcare facilities.. <br />
