Integrated course unit module: MEDICAL NURSING IN SPECIFIC AREAS II

Learning objectives

The teaching course on geriatrics will provide the theoretical basis and the methodology for the study of the main modifications of tissues and organs of the body during aging.
Furthermore the physiopathological aspects of the main Geriatric syndromes will be analyzed to provide a correct nursing to older people

Course unit content

The teaching course on Geriatrics will analyze various aspects of the aging process:
1) Demography of aging and the its consequences on the social sanitary service.
2) Biology of aging and the main theories of aging
3) Physiology of aging : aging of the cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, immune , endocrine, muscle-skeletal, bone and cerebral systems
4) The principal geriatric syndromes with particular attention to cognitive decline and dementia.
5) Some aspects of the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment
