Learning objectives

<br />The purpose of the course is to provide the basic concepts necessary for recognising the most interesting (from the herbal point of view) species of the autochthonous regional medicinal flora. The course will also provide methods for observing the morphology of living regional medicinal species in the field and in the laboratory in order to classify them through the use of analytical keys.

Prerequisites

Students are required to have taken the Plant Biology and Pharmaceutical Botany exams

<br /><br />Significance of a Flora<br />Taxonomy and nomenclature. Analytical keys and their use. Flora of Italy. Regional Floras.<br />Italian medicinal flora with reference to regional medicinal flora: identification of families.<br />Recognition of the genera and spontaneous species that are widely cultivated in Italy.<br /><br />Lychenes <br />General details. The most frequent species. Environmental bioindicator lichens.<br /><br />Pteridophyta:<br />General details. Equisetales; Filicales.<br /><br />Gymnospermae:<br />General details. Ginkgophyta; Coniferophyta.<br /><br />Angiospermae:<br />General details.
