Learning objectives

<br />The course is intended to introduce students to a range of techniques for the organization of bibliographic data and document collections, also through the use of electronic systems.

Course unit content

<br />Information retrieval systems. Systems for description and organization of bibliographic data. Types, structure and function of library catalogues. Functional requirements for bibliographic records. Formats for bibliographic description, codes for the construction of formal and semantic authority records and files. Softwares for library catalogs management.

Teaching methods

<br />TEACHING programme consists of a series of lectures (an outline of topics presented is usually offered in PowerPoint, see at page: <www2.unipr.it/~grignani/EGhome/TT2005/calendprova.html>), seminars, written assignements, at least one oral presentation from each student. <br />ASSESSMENT is conducted throught a final oral exam, in which the results of courswork are also considered (20%).
