Course unit content

<br />The evolutionary theories and explanatory paradigms that guide biological research. Linneo, Buffon, Lamarck, Darwin. Concise theory. The current debate<br />Man and other Primates. Comparative analysis of common characteristics and specific peculiarities of man and non-human primates. Anatomical and functional characteristics of systems/apparatus. Skeletal system and body structure: the locomotor function. Diet, masticatory apparatus, dental characteristics. Characteristics of the head; evolution of the brain. Social behaviour and organization. Parental care and reproductive strategies.<br />Reconstruction of man's evolutionary history through analysis of fossil finds. The hominids and their establishment in Africa. Origin of the Genus Homo and its spread. The spread of man. <br />The appearance of Homo sapiens; its evolutionary history and spread over the whole the earth.<br />The evolutionary history of Homo sapiens. Relations between populations. Assessment of biological variability and estimation of biological similarity between populations.
