Course unit content
The origins of the novel. Aleksandr Sergeevich Pushkin and Mikhail Jur'evič Lermontov
Nineteenth-century Russian novel has its origins in the prose of these two great poets. The course will follow the poetic itinerary of the two writers and the evolution of their prose which has developed along two lines: Pushkin looks for concise and exact reproduction of external data, while that of Lermontov paves the way for psychological investigation of the deepest interiority.
