Learning objectives
The goal is to make the student familiar and conversant<br />with some web publishing tools in the domain of<br />the 'Open Source' software.<br />

Course unit content
<br />The lectures start out with a review (also from<br />the historical point of view) on the<br />technologies and software in the "Open Source"<br />domain. The rest of the laboratory sessions will<br />be base on these tools. <br /><br />- Mark-up languages, content/representation <br />separation , pages organization and content <br />- The development and evolution of HTML into<br />XHTML<br />- Introduction to CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). <br />Styles definition and hierarchy of styles.<br />- XML<br />- Publishing techniques on the www by means<br />of public domain DTSs such as the one that<br />is known as Docbook<br />
