Course unit content
The translation of Russian literature

The course will be subdivided into two units. The first is designed to provide theoretical knowledge of the Russian lexicographical system and the respective lexicographical tools, and to train students in their use. The section regarding lexicographical training will be considered with regard to practical applications in contemporary Russian, in order to develop students’ lexicographical skills. This will be followed by a practical, applied section, which will include a lexicographical part in which monolingual and bilingual dictionaries, along with other tools used by translators, will be examined.
The second unit will train students in concepts regarding a methodological approach to the translation of literary texts from Russian. As well as the linguistic analysis of the texts, this will include the preparation of trial translations of these texts, in cooperation with the professor.
