Learning objectives

 The goal of the course is to provide students with:<br /><br /><br />knowledge of the etiopathogenesis, symptomatology and injuries of the main viral diseases of domestic animals and of the main bacterial, viral, parasitic and mycotic diseases of productive and domestic birds<br /><br />ability to identify the correct diagnostic pathway and interpret the data obtained through laboratory diagnostics<br />ability to draw up direct and indirect control measures, with particular reference to vaccine prophylaxis<br />critical assessment of national and international legislation on viral diseases in domestic animals and diseases in poultry subjected to health measures

Course unit content

<br /> <br />Introduction to the study of virus-related diseases in domestic animals: basic concepts relating to the nature and classification of viruses, their pathogenic attitude and the main investigation methods used in virology are presented.<br />Special study: study of the main virus-related diseases in domestic animals<br /> (swine fevers, poxvirus diseases, herpesvirus diseases, adenovirus diseases, coronavirus diseases, orbivirus infections in sheep and horses, picornavirus infections, rhabdovirus infections, togavirus infections, meaning of the so-called “non-conventional agents” or prions in domestic animal diseases) <br /><br /><br />Introduction to the study of poultry diseases: the course will cover concepts relating to the semiologic pattern for diagnosing avian diseases, necroscopic technique and main laboratory tests in diagnosing diseases in poultry<br /><br />Special study: bacterial diseases (salmonellosis, pullorosis/typhoid, colibacillosis, mycoplasmosis, pasteurellosis,/moraxella infections, tuberculosis, staphylococchosis staphylococcosis, chlamydiosis, diamond-skin disease, clostridium infections, contagious coryza)<br />viral diseases (bird flu, Newcastle disease, infective laryngotracheitis, infective bronchitis, diphtheria/cowpox, Gumboro’s disease, Marek’s disease, leukosis/sarcoma complex, encephalomyelitis, arthritis/tenosynovitis, adenovirus infections, chicken infectious anemia)<br />Parasitic, mycotic and unknown etiology diseases
