Learning objectives
<br />This course aims to provide the informations and the scientific background to understand and to recognize the more common biochemical parameters with respect to specific physical activity, or to different physiologic-para-physiologic conditions, and during the monitoring of training; moreover, being able to argue about concepts like normal values, reference limits, risk values, pathologic values, and so forth.
Prerequisites
<br />There are no obligatory prerequisites, but Clinical Biochemistry is an interdisciplinary science and needs the basic knowledge in Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry and Biochemistry
Course unit content
<br />The role of Clinical biochemistry in sport and physical activities.<br />Clinical laboratory analysis: definition, typology, request modality. Biological sample: properties and characteristics. Specimens of particular interest for sport sciences; Synovial fluid tests.<br />Pre-analytical and analytical variability affecting reliability of laboratory data, particularly with respect to POCT (Point Of Care Testing) methods and instruments. Quality control for POCT.<br />General meanings in the biochemical basal profile for blood and urine analysis.<br />Physical activity and modification of biochemical parameters of biological samples: acute or chronic consequences.<br />Markers of damage to muscle-skeletal organs<br />Meaning of some common laboratory parameters markers of function and/or tissue damage or metabolic dysfunction. <br />Test currently waived clinical analysis. Specimen and its treatment in POCT. Analysis at the bedside, on the field or at the workplace. Auto-monitoring of metabolic index.
