Train future veterinary surgeons to adopt an organic vision, with full awareness of the medical activities involved, with the immediate aim being fully aware of medical activities, in order to prepare them to tackle and pass the qualifying examination for professional practice

The practical internship provided for by the legislation in force which is mandatory for the entry of Veterinary Medicine graduates to the qualifying State exam for professional practice requires daily attendance of the Veterinary Hospital of our Faculty for the period set according to the procedures laid down in the Faculty Regulations. <br />

In particular, the intern is required to learn, first and foremost, proficiency in manual operations necessary for the performance of the most important diagnostic procedures in the medical sector: taking of blood, faeces, urine, hair, scales, feathers etc. and other pathological material of diagnostic interest, as well as those involved in the preparation of the patients for the routine instrumental tests, in particular the electrocardiography, ultrasonography and echocardiograhy and the somatosensory evoked potentials. <br />

The mastery of the said manual skills and the physical approach to patients belonging to different animal species with different handling problems is a preparatory phase to the conceptually more complex diagnostic and therapeutic phases, during which the intern, guided by the course professors and technical personnel, becomes progressively more involved, performing activities involving reception of the animals, triage and assigning of the same to the various subsectors, filling out the relative clinical records (medical history, etc.) e that accompany the patient. <br />

Singularly or in small groups, the interns then follow the diagnostic procedure of the clinical cases and personally perform the tests considered necessary and within their technical competence, while, as regards the more sophisticated instrumental and laboratory practices, they are required to witness the most important phases of execution. <br />
<br />
The interns actively participate in the subsequent choice of the therapeutic and prophylactic orientation of animals treated at home and, in particular they personally administer treatments to hospitalised animals and are responsible for checking up on their progress. <br />
<br />
Finally, for more important cases, clinical and anatomopathological follow-up procedures considered important for the technical, humane and professional training of the veterinary surgeon are provided for. <br />
