Knowledege of the respiratory system physiology at rest and during exercice.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of human anatomy, pulmonary and cardiac physiology.
Course unit content
<p> Respiratory tract: anatomy and function; breathing regulation by the central nervous system (eupnoea, dyspnoea, bradipnoea, polipnoea, hyperventilation) Defense mechanisms of the airways. Ventilation mechanisms and respiratory muscles. Pulmonary circulation and gas diffusion. Pulmonary circulation and gas diffusion. Pulmonary function tests (spirometry, blood gas analysis, pulsoxymetry). Respiratory work (O2 consuption and O2 roduction). Common respiratory symptoms (cough, sputum, haemoptysis, chest pain).</p>
