Learning objectives

The purpose of the course  is to provide basic notions of immunology and fundamental knowledge on some human diseases with high incidence

Course unit content

Physiopathology of blood and hemostasis :blood, hematopoiesis, anemias, hemostasis and its alterations: trombosis, embolism, ischemia and infarction.<br />
Basic Immunology and immunopathology. innate immunity: phagocytosis, complement activation and inflammatory response. Systemic effects of inflammation: fever. Acquired immunity: T and B lymphocytes, the structural and functional aspects of antibodies, primary and secondary response, vaccinations,allergies and immunodeficiencies. Basic oncology :characteristics of benign and malignant neoplasms, metastasis.<br />
Atherosclerosis: risks factors, development of artherosclerotic plaque and its evolution.<br />
Diabetes mellitus: insulin and non-insulin dependent.
