Learning objectives

<br />The aims of the advanced course in Pharmacology and Pharmatoxicology are to acquire knowledge of the fundamental aspects connected with the therapeutic use of a number of drugs of major interest as well as fundamental elements relative to adverse reactions and their evaluations, possible interference with hematochemical parameters taking into account structure, kinetics, mechanism of action and the relationship between pharmacological and toxicological effects.

Prerequisites

 <br />Knowledge acquired during the Pharmacology and Pharmatoxicology course.

Course unit content

<br /> <br />Gastrointestinal damage from drugs:  evaluation of damage and protection mechanisms of the gastrointestinal mucosa, evaluation of new gastroprotective drugs with other mechanisms of action. <br />Evaluation of the action of drugs on gastric secretion: overview of the physio-pharmacology of gastric secretion,&nbs! p;factors involved in nervous, humoral and hormonal regulation,  the main in vitro and in vivo study methods, evaluation of new gastric antisecretory drugs with other mechanisms of action.<br />Role of histamine receptors in inflammation, analgesia and gastroprotection.<br />Pharmacovigilance.<br />General principles of phytotherapy. Interaction between herbs and drugs. Phytovigilance.
