Integrated course unit module: THE MOLECULAR MECHANISMS OF DEFENCE RESPONSES

Learning objectives

To provide the cultural bases required to understand the main biotechonological approaches for diagnosis and therapy of immune system disease. <br />

Prerequisites

Knowledge of basic immunology is strongly recommended. However, the first part of the Course will be devoted to a rapid summary of the most important information required. <br />

Course unit content

<p>The course will provide the essential elements concerning the diseases of the immune system so as to give the rational bases of the most common biotechnological approaches used for their diagnosis and therapy. <br />
The following subjects will be treated: <br />
a) Immunodeficiency <br />
b) Hypersensitivities and immune-mediated tissue damage <br />
c) Transplantation and graft rejection <br />
d) Autoimmunity <br />
e) Immunotherapy of cancer <br />
The first lessons will provide essential elements of basic and molecular immunology so as to warrant that all students have the notions needed to follow the Course successfully. <br />
