Learning objectives

The course will convey the concepts and basic language of business economic subjects, provide a united vision of the structure and functioning of companies and develop students’ capacity to critically observe business phenomena. After analysing the main functional characteristics and distinctive elements which characterise production, public and no profit companies, the course will develop themes pertaining to the measurement systems, with particular emphasis on the Public Healthcare system, which can be adopted to check the economic position of a company.

The course will further explore economics in the healthcare sector by applying it to the studies of the healthcare services market. The healthcare sector represents one of the most important sectors of the economy in terms of the resources and personnel required. The course will start by analysing these points in order to explore the issue of public healthcare management. Market characteristics will be analysed first, followed by supply systems and contracts between the various actors. The organisation of healthcare markets and the interaction between consumers, healthcare providers and the public regulatory body will then be examined. Finally, the management tools used in supply and demand will be outlined.
