Learning objectives
Reading of written materials and analysis of documentary material have been designed to prepare students for independent research, consolidate their critical awareness, and ascertain their tools in preparation for the final dissertation project.
Course unit content
<br />Criticism and satire of expositions in Italy between the late 19th century and early 20th century. <br />
<br />
The course will start with a series of methodology-related encounters on the theme of description/ reproduction/ transcription. Within this specific context, special attention will be given the use of ekphrasis in the Salons of Diderot. Following this will be analysis of a range of materials (reviews, catalogues, illustrated publications, satirical drawings, etc.) related to Italian expositions in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
