Learning objectives

<br />
Tracing the development of the refraction of a European image in Russian history and culture enables students to consider the development of Russian literature from a comparative point of view.

Good knowledge of the institutions of the history of Russian literature

Figures in European imagination. Hamlet (and Ophelia) in Russia <br />

“Dreaming, everyone becomes a Shakespeare” <br />
(A. Schopenhauer, Parerga and paralipomena) <br />
<br />
At the origins of individual conscience and modernity, an emblematic figure dense in contradictory aspects, Hamlet inspired Russian poets and writers from as early as the 18th century. After a historical review, the course will concentrate on 20th century literature involving this literary legend (A. Blok, A. Achmatova, M. Bulgakov, B. Pasternak). <br />
<br />
The course is in two modules, subdivided as follows: <br />
<br />
Module B (5 learning credits): conducted entirely in Italian, therefore accessible to students without Russian language skills but interested in Russian literature and comparative studies. This module (5 learning credits) can be taken on its own. <br />
<br />
Module C (5 learning credits): this course is intended for students studying Russian, and it includes the study of poetic texts in Russian and the analysis of various translations of Hamlet. This module requires the prior completion of module B. <br />
<br />
In accordance with students' needs, the course may also look at aspects of interlingual translation (Pasternak's translation of Hamlet) and possibly intersemiotic questions (the cinematographic version of this translation directed by G. Kozincev, with music by D. Shostakovich). <br />
