The course is designed to privide students with in-depth knowledge of Italian history in the 1800s, not only within an institutional context, but also from a social and cultural standpoint linked to literary, artistic and iconographic genres.

Course unit content
<br /> Course title: in search of the homeland. Periods and methods in the forming of national-patriotic identity in Italy (Part. II). The course will examine the extended cultural and political process that started at the and of the 18th Century with its major features emerging i n the early decades of the 1800s, and which led to the birth of the unified nation state. The course is divided into two units: <br />unit A, introducatory in nature, is dedicated primarily to institutional aspects (1796-1918);<br />Unit B, more specialised, wil examine the politics, society and culture from the jacobin triennium to unification, with special emphasis on patriotism of women.

Teaching methods
Teaching method involves classroom lectures, seminars, audio-visual aids and documentary analysis. The final assessment, with a grading system in thirtieths, consists of an oral exam. It is recommended that students prepare a written report on a theme of their choice that pertains to one of the topics covered during the course.
