Learning objectives

<br />Through analysis of a text, students will be provided the tools to allow them to undertake independent historic, linguistic and literary study of Old French literature.

Prerequisites

It is requested that students have taken the 10 credit Romance philology course during the 3-year undergraduate program

Course unit content

<br />Roman de Tristan, “courtly version”, “common version”: examination of these two traditional labels.<br />The course will offer an in-depth analysis of the texts (Tristan di Thomas, Tristan di Beroul, Folies Tristan) and a historical contextualisation of the critical debate that flourished around them.
