Learning objectives
The course will examine poetic culture in the golden age of Russian literature through the work of A.S. Pushkin and F.I. Tyutchev. The study of two such different figures in Russian Romanticism will make it possible to develop a wide-ranging, multi-faceted panorama of early 19th century culture. Pushkin’s key role in Russian culture will also introduce elements of later poetry, above all from the early 20th century.

The sun and moon of Russian poetry. Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin and Fyodor Ivanovich Tyutchev <br />
<br />
The apparent contrast between the two great 19th century poets, between day and night, classical Apollonian harmony and romantic Dionysian chaos, crumbles when their texts are subjected to detailed, comprehensive examination. The course will look at the two writers’ poetic career in the context of 19th and 20th century literary developments, and dedicating particular attention to the heritage of these two great poets in the early 20th century. <br />
