Learning objectives
Module A of the course aims to familiarise students with the main outlines of modern history, not only in Italy, while Module B deals with an aspect of our society that is usually little explored because it is wrongly considered “unworthy” or of little significance, and as a result left to the realm of current affairs and statistics.
Course unit content
The course is divided into two modules: <br />
1. Module A (5 learning credits): general section dedicated to the major themes and issues of modern history from 1815 to 1980. <br />
2. Module B (5 learning credits): specialised section dedicated to “Italian History and Sports History”. Sport is one of the most visible and intrusive aspects of modern society. Some sports more than others illustrate the interaction between various branches of civil society, such as politics, economics, culture and leisure. The course will examine some of the events and figures that have contributed to building the great popularity of sport over the course of the 20th century and at the heart of mass society. <br />

Teaching methods
Classroom lectures (for both Modules A and B). Assessment for Module A includes a written exam that covers the contemporary-era material. Students must pass this exam in order to sit the oral exam for Module B.
