Learning objectives

Goal of the course is, first and foremost, to provide fundamental knowledge regarding medieval history, freeing the field of numerous preconceptions about this historical period. It will also be aimed at providing students with the critical skills to interpret an histographical topic.

Prerequisites

There are no set course requirements for this course. However, knowledge of Latin is recommended.

Course unit content

The course is devided in two parts, each representing a unit worth 5 university educational credits. The first part is an introduction to medieval history (5th-15th centuries). The second specialised part focuses on lay confraternities in Italian Middle Ages.
