Learning objectives
The course aims, through the reading of sources and documents, to provide students with a good understanding of modern history and an in-depth knowledge of pluralism in legal practices in modern times in a historical and historiographical context.
Course unit content
Course title: Forgiveness and punishment rituals in modern times. Module A: is the institutional part of the course with particular emphasis on the main themes and problems of modern times. The course will explore, by analysing case studies, the theme of pluralism in legal practices in modern times, from negotiated pluralism founded on transaction, compensation for damages, grace or pardon, to hegemonic pluralism based on punishment of the guilty. <br />

Teaching methods
The course will follow lecture form and include the reading of texts and analysis of documents. The final evaluation will consist of an oral exam which will be marked out of thirty.
