Politics of nature and social ontology.

T he course will deal with the relationship between concepts of nature and political
models, with reference to various moments in the history of thought and
then to the contemporary debate on the subject. Particular attention will be
given, in the historical-introductory part, to questions regarding the
position of the social community in the natural cosmos, to the relationship between state
of nature and civil state, individuality and natural right. This will be useful
to clarify the anthropological definition of human nature with regard to the various
political models and then to introduce critically the contemporary debate
on the natural abilities assumed by the agent and on the
politicsof natural life (biopolitics). In the part taught through seminars, thelink between social ontology and political philosophy will be dealtwith in particular.
