Learning objectives

This occurs aims to provide conceptual and methodological tools for understanding and explanation of poltical events. It will be paid more attention to the functions and development of political institutions in contemporary democracies.

Course unit content

In the first part of the course the most relevant theories in political science will be described as following: 1) origins and developmet of political science; 2) methodology; 3) political participation; 4) political groups and movements; 5) elecions and electoral systems; 6) poltical parties and party system;7) parliments and governments; 9) public policies; 10) democratic and non democratic regimes. In the second part more specific topics will be developed concerning the Italian political system in the Nineties.

Teaching methods

Attendance may provide a better understandign of topics described during lectures and explained in the books for examination. It also provides information about techniques, functions and transformation of political systems in a comparative perspective. during lessons further materials and ducuments will be provided andsupplementary biblioghraphies for those who are interested in developing specific topics of the discipline. It is suggested to read newspapers in which it is possible to get examples of theories, methodology and approaches in political sciences described in the course.
