Learning objectives
The purpose of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge of territorial and environmental analysis, combined with knowledge of the basic and advanced functions of commonly used GIS software.

1. Territorial phenomena. <br />
2. Data: alphanumeric data and map data. <br />
3. Territorial Information Systems (TIS) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS): purposes and differences. <br />
GIS: user levels and fields of application. <br />
4. Geographical Information Systems: <br />
- logical models and physical structures of data <br />
- vector and raster data structures <br />
- differences and combined use of data structures <br />
Practical part <br />
1. Basic functionality of GIS software. <br />
2. Advanced functionality of GIS software. <br />
3. Exercises regarding the use of GIS in the environmental field. <br />

Teaching methods
The course will be conducted through theory-based classroom lectures and practical exercises, supported by the teacher’s own material and lecture notes. During the course seminars relating to specific course topics or case studies may also be held. <br />
To pass the course students must pass a single oral test based as much on theoretical as practical aspects. <br />
