Learning objectives

The student will have to know the main methods to evaluate and describe both micro and macro evolutionary changes, particularly those regarding animal species. 

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of Zoology and Genetics.

<br />A short history of Evol.Biol. - The evidence for evolution - Species trasformation  and fossil remains - Neodarwinism -  Experimentally produced evolution - Natural selection and morphological and molecular variations -  Adaptation - Evolution of natural populations - Macroevolution - Evolution of karyotypes and genomes - Gene duplications, gene family and concerted evolution - Evolution of  tetrapods based on ribosomal genes - Mammalian evolution based on mitochondrial data - Molecular clock.
