Learning objectives

The aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge necessary for studying the phenomena that take place in plasmas (or in ionized gases).

Course unit content

<br />Ionized gases and plasmas. Free-particle gas: trajectories of charged particles in electric and magnetic fields. Classical theory of binary collisions. Cross sections. Kinetic theory of fluids and hydrodynamics: fundamental quantities. Microscopic evolution equations: Liouville equation and BBGKY hierarchy, collisionless Boltzmann equation, Vlasov equation.
