Learning objectives

The course has been designed to provide students with the most up-to-date scientific information concerning the application of molecular markers of DNA to the comprehension of behavioural biology.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge in genetics, zoology and ethology.

Course unit content

Genome, evolution and behaviour. Nature and nurture. Molecular markers and their application to behavioural biology. Molecular fingerprinting. Transgenic animals. Genes involved in metabolism of neurotransmitters. Molecular fundaments of anxiety, depression and aggressiveness in different mammalian taxa. Microsatellites and reproductive homing.
