Course unit content

<br />Methodologic approach to a real analytical problem. Definition of the analytical protocol. Sampling procedures, homogeneous and heterogeneous samples. Treatment of the sample: liquid-liquid extraction, continuous extraction by Soxhlet extractor, solid phase extraction and microextraction, solvent-free techniques, preconcentration, elimination of interferences. Mineralization, ashing, microwave assisted digestion. Choiche of the analytical method, official methods, standard methods. Development of an analytical method, internal and external calibrations, standard and certified reference materials. Quality parameters of a method: precision, accuracy, linearity interval, sensitività, detection and quantitation limits, outline of validation, repeatability, reproducibility, roughdness. Correlation between off-line data and in situ measurements.   Importance of the measurement of pH, conductivity, redox potential and temperature. Multiparametric probes and their applications. Meaning and interpretation of the Pourbaix diagrams.
